I was born on the volcanic island of Fogo, Cape Verde, in the middle of the Atlantic. Inspired by oceans and mountains, I have been passionate about photography since the age of 15. I completed a course in photography in Toulouse, France in 1992, and in 2001 a course in Photojournalism in Portugal.

 

Between 2001 and 2011, I refined my personal style, reaching the conclusion that it was easier to just do it than trying to think and define it. For me, photography represents art and symbolizes my being as a person and a citizen, giving life to my photos while letting others interpret my "click." I am most drawn to the contrast of light and human expressions.

 

The photograph as an art form must always be creative, framed in a concept or a vision of the photographer. In other words, the photographer should always be a part of his or her composition, transmitting a certain mystery while considering the perspective of the viewer.

 

Most of the time, the photographer builds a great challenge for him or herself; other times, a certain disillusion. Still, creating his or her own style, the photographer's vision will always be reflected through the themes. Consequently, our perception and appreciation of the world that surrounds us should be directly linked to our own modus-operandi.
